ABOUT US

COME to God, GROW in GOD, GO with God

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe in the trustworthiness and authority of the Bible and its complete inspiration by the Holy Spirit.

We believe there is only one true Living God, existing in co-unity in the tri-personality of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for all eternity.

We believe in the unique nature of man and woman as moral and rational beings created in the image of God.

We believe in the historic fall of humankind into sin, bringing all people under divine condemnation.

We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who was fully man and fully God, His virgin birth, and His absence of sin.

We believe in the necessity and complete efficacy of the voluntary and substitutionary death of Jesus Christ for our salvation, and the historical fact of His bodily resurrection.

We believe in the justification of sinners by the Lord Jesus Christ through faith alone by God’s grace.

We believe in the deity and personality of the Holy Spirit, who is the effective agent in drawing believers to Jesus Christ, convicted them of their sins, and leading them in holy living through the gifting of various spiritual gifts to grow the kingdom of God on earth.

We believe in the maturing fellowship of Christians in the Church, that embraces Biblical doctrine, worships the Triune God, obeys the Lord Jesus' commands to baptize new believers and to remember Him at the Lord ’s Table, exercises discipline, loves, leads, and nurtures fellow believers, and proclaims the Good News of the Gospel beyond the walls of the church.

We believe in and anticipate with great expectation the visible, triumphant, and personal return of our Lord Jesus Christ in all His glory.

We believe in the resurrection of the saved to be joined together in the eternal enjoyment of God forever in His presence, and the resurrection of the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment.

OUR HISTORY

In 1892, Rev. Joshua Barbee came to Excelsior Springs, which was founded in 1880, for health reasons. On May 6, 1894, a committee from Upper Missouri Presbytery met in Excelsior Springs to officially organize the Presbyterian Church. Rev. Barbee was installed as the first pastor and given a salary of $100.00 a year.

There were 21 charter members and services were held in numerous locations until a new church could be built in 1902 at the corner of Temple and Benton. Rev. Barbee died just before the church was dedicated.

Then in 1973, under the leadership of interim pastor Dr. Kenneth Berg, a new church was built and later moved into on July 4, 1974. The first service was held on July 7, 1974.

On July 13, 2008 Daniel Bruce Clark became the pastor of Barbee Memorial! Barbee Memorial recently celebrated her 116th birthday!  Barbee has a wonderful past and we know that, with God's help, a wonderful future!

As of January, 2024, Barbee welcomed our new pastor, Rev. Marvin Clay, along with his wife, Angela.  We would love for you to attend one Sunday to hear his dynamic message filled with hope and love.
